Chris Gayle’s unbridled innings in Bangladesh Premier League final on Tuesday carried Rangpur Riders to their maiden title. The West Indian master blaster set new record for most sixes in a T20 innings. He hit 18 massive sixes during his unbeaten innings of 146 off 69 balls to break his own previous record of 17 sixes. He also completed 100 sixes in BPL to become the first player to do so.
Gayle’s tally of total sixes in T20 cricket is now 819, the most by any batsman in the world. He has hit 10-plus sixes in a T20 innings on 15 occasions. No other batsman has hit 10 more than twice, a fact that makes him far ahead than the rest. This century was 20th of Gayle’s prolific T20 career, the most by any player in the shortest format of the game. With this, he also completed 11,000 T20 runs. His individual score, 146*, is also the highest ever in a T20 final.
Dhaka couldn’t offer a formidable chase especially when Shakib was dismissed for 26 and half of the team had already gone in the ninth over. Rangpur convincingly achieved a victorious conclusion by 52 runs.
