After almost three years of strenuous qualifying, leaving millions of fans joyous or heartbroken on the way, finally the moment came to let people know who plays whom. The preliminary draw for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia was held yesterday at Moscow’s Kremlin State Palace in St. Petersburg.

Hosts Russia will open the world’s most celebrated event against Saudi Arabia at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on June 14. The defending champions Germany were drawn into a tough Group F along with Mexico, Sweden and Korea Republic. According to the November FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, the toughest group is Group C which has France, Australia, Peru and Denmark.

An array of high-profile names and legendary footballers were present in the ceremony including Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Lothar Mattaeus, Gary Linekar and FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The final will be played on July 15 in Moscow.
