Idris Elba is reportedly in talks for the replacement of Will Smith for the role in Suicide Squad 2. The sequel which will be coming out soon will be directed by Guardians of Galaxy director James Gunn and Gunn also wrote the script for the film.
Sources have revealed that Idris Elba met James Gunn this week for the role and things went great and now the talks have further extended towards Warner Bros. studios. The Luther star was the only choice James Gunn and the studio had.
The move comes a week after Will Smith left the project due to scheduling issues. Smith, who played assassin anti-hero Deadshot, along with Margot Robbie, as Harley Quinn, led the ensemble of the 2016 movie. The film would mark James Gunn’s return to the director’s chair after Disney sacked him from Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 last July when his old offensive tweets resurfaced on social media
The first part of Suicide Squad, is written and directed by David Ayer, featured the cast of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne.
Suicide Squad 2 is all slated to release on September 6 2021.
