Karan will be directing a full-length feature film after a gap of two years. His last directional venture was Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Anushka Sharma starrer “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” in 2016.

Takht revolves around the battle for the throne in the Mughal empire.

The story revolves around the Mughal dynasty which focuses on the cruel scheming of Aurangzeb who would do anything to be the ultimate ruler.

There is speculation that it is the tale of Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh, his elder brother whom he got killed to ascend the throne.

In his next tweet, the filmmaker revealed the cast of his film.

He tweeted, “I am so excited and honoured to announce the lead cast of #TAKHT.”

Veteran actor Anil Kapoor took to twitter and shared his views:

Thrilled to be a part of @karanjohar ‘s historical magnum opus with a stellar cast! Watch out for more!

Takht is also a huge challenge for Karan, who has so far only helmed stories based on love, friendship and the all the emotions in between.

We are sure even Takht will have a strong emotional quotient in it. Karan Johar narrating a story about power, greed and relationships. We have that the audience loves grand period films given the success of Baahubali and Padmaavat. It makes good business sense to cash in on the wave.

Takht is surely Johar’s Magnum opus for sure.It is scheduled to release in 2020.
