Nightingale of Pakistan, Naheed Akhtar has recently been awarded Rs 10 million at Alhamra Arts Council by Punjab Government for her services in the field of showbiz.
The recipient of Pride of Performance award has appealed to Punjab CM Main Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for financial support after the death of her husband.
The Chief Minister while responding to her appeal immediately gave approval to release fund for her financial help.
The singer while presented her gratitude to the government said, “I am very happy today, Shehbaz Sharif has proved that he is contributing a lot for the artist community.”
At the cheque giving ceremony, Executive Director of Alhamra Arts Council, Capt (Retd) Atta Muhammad Khan said the Punjab government was making efforts to help deserving artists in unfavorable circumstances.
While acknowledging the efforts of Naheed Akhtar in the field of showbiz, he said that she is one of the legendary singer of our country.
“Let me acknowledge that glamour in Pakistani music was first introduced by Naheed Akhtar and songs once sang by her are still popular among music-lovers,” he said.
Naheed Akhtar has started her singing career in 1970 with a duet song with Khalid Asghar in “Raag Malhar” at Radio Pakistan Multan. Besides performing on Pakistani television, she has also worked as a playback singer for Pakistani film industry for several years.
She has sung variety of songs from different genres including filmy music, pop, ghazal, classical music, Punjabi folk songs, Qawwalis, Naat, Hamds & others.
