With growing contention for title race, both these teams have developed high octane rivalry from the last season when Man City squeaked by Liverpool to finish as champions. The Reds at Anfield these days are lethal with superb strikers ready to penetrate visitors’ defense anytime.
Liverpool Overpowers Manchester City
Liverpool drew the first blood in the sixth minute to stun Pep Guardiola just after his protest for the penalty resulted from a controversial handball. Meanwhile, as the game continued, Fabinho’s right footed strike past Bravo like a bullet to put Liverpool in front so early.
The lead was soon doubled in the thirteenth minute when Alexander Arnold’s wonderful swinging cross was precisely guided by Mohammad Salah into the net. Earlier in the second half Sadio Mane scored the third goal to seal Man City’s defeat. Eventually the visitors managed to snatch a consolation goal to leave the final score as Liverpool 3 and Manchester City 1.
Currently Liverpool leads the English Premier League points table at 34 unbeaten and eight points clear of Leicester City & Chelsea at second and 9 points ahead of Manchester City. The EPL 2019-20 is still open with 26 weeks of intense football to continue. It’s still too early to predict with the kind of fixture list the team has to play with. Giants like Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham can make dramatic ascensions as the season proceeds.
But at present Liverpool is in a shape to persist with the performance they are showing. Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, being the happiest man at the moment has his confidence high on a team that’s running and stunning everyone on the way to the title. It’ll be really interesting to see in coming months whether Klopp guides his team to be the Premier League Champions after draught of almost thirty years.
