Ali Zafar’s legal counsel has sent Meesha Shafi a defamation notice worth Rs 100 crore for the sexual harassment allegations she made against him on Twitter, as reported by Dawn.com. The legal notice states that Shafi deletes the particular tweet and issues an apology on Twitter, otherwise Zafar will file a Rs100 crore defamation suit against her.
And what did the diva do, you must be wondering? Shafi’s lawyer, Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Pansota, said that all the allegations are based on truth, therefore, the notice is dispelled. “We have received the notice and are examining its contents. The contents of Meesha’s statements with regard to Ali Zafar are based on truth, and therefore we dispel this notice.”
Twitter saw a lot of commotion and frenzy last week, on April 19th, when musician/singer/model Shafi accused Zafar of sexually harassing her multiple times.
In fact, this news came as a shock for the majority because the latter seemed to be both a good husband and father. Shafi said that it was very challenging for her to say it upfront but she didn’t want to stay mum about it anymore. “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar […] It has been an extremely traumatic experience for me and my family […] I feel betrayed by his behaviour and attitude and I know that I’m not alone.”
Zafar denied all the allegation made against him the very day. “I categorically deny any and all claims of harassment lodged against me by Ms Shafi.”
This event also gave way to the #MeToo campaign which urged many despairing women to come up and share their inappropriate encounters with men in the past.
