R balki’s social drama Padman which was all about women rights and Women sanitary pads is doing great business at the box office.Starring, Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. The film had collected 5.87 crore on Monday which took its total box office collection to 45.92 Crore.
Padman released on 9 February with a collection of Rs 10.26 crore, rs 13.68 crore on Saturday and 16.11 crore on Sunday. The film hit the Rs 40 crore mark in only three days. But looks like the working days have taken a toll on the film as it was able to only earn a sum of Rs 5.87 crore on its first working day. Compared to its Sunday collection, the earnings have decreased by more than 60%.
The film has been inspired by the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who brought a revolution in India with his low cost machines which could manufacture cheap and affordable sanitary napkins for the economically weaker people of the society who couldn’t afford too much. After impressing the audience with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which was also based on a social issue, Padman seems to set yet another example of being a successful socially relevant film.
Critics had a lot to say about the film Padman, while the film has some good causes to portray, it isn’t a very enjoyable film. As we can see Akshay Kumar is consistently bringing up social relevant problems and he also brings solutions for those. Padman is produced by Akshay Kumar’s wife twinkle Khanna. The film has tonal problems, swinging between commonplace-ness and flat-out filmi-ness, because it is trying to appeal to many constituencies at the same time, a song to celebrate the onset of menstruation of a little girl uses the problematic word ‘nakeel’, which means ‘to be led by the nose’.”
