Peshawar Zalmi adds Chinese ingredient into the PSL flavor. The news has been interesting and caught some attention by Cricket lovers. This will be the first time that Chinese players will participate in any international T20 cricket league tournament.
China is not a cricket playing nation and Peshawar Zalmi’s efforts to introduce cricket in the neighboring country and attracting Chinese youth to play the sport has been an exciting idea.
Two Chinese cricketers, Jian Li and Yufie Zhang, would join the Zalmi squad at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, said Amir Suhail Afridi, the China representative of Peshawar Zalmi. “We will provide them a platform to recognize their talent and motivate them to achieve international recognition”, he said. Meanwhile, Amir Suhail Afridi further said that China Zalmi team has won the Global Zalmi League this month organized by the franchise under its “Global Zalmi” a fan-based league of cricket enthusiasts that represents Zalmi clubs in over 16 countries around the world. Subsequently, China Zalmi won the competition and got the cash award of $10,000 from Peshawar Zalmi’s head, Javed Afridi. The two top players, Jian and Yufie have been selected for the premier tournament, Pakistan Super League in Dubai.
Peshawar Zalmi is the defending champion but they haven’t been in command since the tournament started on February 22. They have lost two of the three matches and currently stand at number 4 on the points table. With exclusion of Shahid Afridi this season and Hassan Ali not playing due to injury, the team hasn’t come out to its maximum potential. Peshawar’s upcoming crucial match on 1st March against Quetta Gladiators will decide where Zalmi shall be heading next in the tournament. However, it’s gradually becoming a great challenge for Peshawar Zalmi to revive their last year’s performance and qualify as hot favorites for the title.
