Shrek is getting a reboot, according to reports from Variety. It’s a spinoff and not only this but Puss in Boots, will also get reboots making the franchise exciting. Chris Meledandri the man who directed Despicable Me films will be helming this project.

The original Shrek series had four films and were based on a misunderstood ogre who gets disturbed by fairy tale creatures and goes on a quest to get back the quiet he had in his swamp. Basically Shrek only wants peace however when he embarks on the journey he makes new friends and finds himself a lover who later turns into an ogre from a beautiful princess.

Everytime a new part of the film came out the makers added more and more characters. The first two films were loved by the critics and did great at the box office raking big amounts of money, while the last two films could not do so good and received criticism. The film’s voice cast includes Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Fiona.

Chris Meledandri would like to keep the voice cast for the reboot. He told Variety, “When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations. The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”

Meledandri also told variety that how he would be working on the films “There’s a tremendous amount of fun to be had in that world, but it’s a high bar to find a story that’s truly world. You want to find something in the narrative that really feels like a departure.”

Well it looks like every grown up adult who enjoyed Shrek in their childhood will be witnessing the mighty Ogre once again.
