As Kohli prepares to tie the knot with Anushka in Milan this week, Sri Lanka punished his team at home in the first one-day match of the series in Dharamsala Cricket Stadium. The islanders beat the host team convincingly by seven wickets. Bowling first, Sri Lanka rooted them out for just 112 runs. It’s Sri Lanka’s first ODI victory in India after seven years. MS Dhoni was the only Indian batsman to resist Sri Lankan attack, scoring 65 runs, more than half of the team’s total.

It is said to be India’s biggest defeat at home. With exclusion of Virat Kohli, Indian middle order was exposed dramatically.  This paved the way for such an unexpected batting collapse. Indians were invited to bat on a wicket that had some moisture on the surface. With this advantage, Lakmal and Angelo Mathew bombarded Indian batsmen with some impressive swing and bounce. Sri Lanka’s stunning show makes them go one up in the series. Indian’s were 29 for 7 at one moment but Dhoni’s stubborn knock dragged them past the three figure mark.

Rohit Sharma’s debut as captain proved frail and affected his personal performance too. It’ll be interesting to see if Sri Lanka continues to surprise India in the remaining two matches to clinch the series.
