‘Surkh Chandni’ to highlight the plight of acid attack victims: Sami Khan

Pakistani women who survive revenge-based acid attacks are in the words of “living dead”. It’s a horrific crime but also a largely unknown one, since the victims are often too ashamed by their disfigurement to publicly report it or reluctant to file charges against a family member.

Upcoming drama serial ‘Surkh Chandni’ pulls the curtain back on an act that’s all too common but rarely spoken of in Pakistan: men who throw acid at women’s faces in a fit of rage.

The drama serial will touch upon the issue of rising number of acid attacks in the country.

‘Surkh Chandni’ is written by Asma Nabeel, directed by Shahid Shafaat and produced by Samina Humayun Saeed – Sana Shahnawaz of next level entertainment. The cast includes Asad Siddiqui, Mansha Pasha, Rubina Ashraf, Lubna Aslam, Gul-e-Raana and many more. It will be aired on ARY Digital.

Speaking exclusively to Celebdhaba Sami Khan and Asma Nabeel revealed some exclusive scoop.

It’s a story which needs to be told. The core narrative of ‘Surkh Chandni’ is very strong. Asma Nabeel has always done a commendable job whenever she takes up social issues.

Khan added: I have earlier worked with Shahid Shafaat in “Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua”. He is a great director to work with. I hope we create magic this time again. I am really excited as the shoot begins within a week.

I really look forward to work with Sohai Ali Abro as she is a stupendous actress.  I hope our chemistry really works for the audiences.

Asma Nabeel

‘Surkh Chandni’ basically sheds light on acid victims. It highlights the significant legislations of acid and burn crime bills, its implementation to the victims and bringing  justice to the culprits at the earliest.

It exemplifies for a better legal approach with special reference to acid attacks as a crime, and the validity of specific legal provisions for female victims.

Sohai Ali Abro plays the acid victim. She is back on TV after a long break. She instantly said yes due to the strong narrative alongwith a social message.
